Plane ticket prices

plane tickets are absurdly expensive, however, that isn't the most frustrating aspect about them. The thing about plane ticket prices is that they can increase exponentially in just a couple of hours. say for instance i wanted to go home to texas for the holidays and, on a monday, save a hypothetical itinerary on a website. Well on tuesday night the fare could have gone up by 200 $ or more! How is this drastic change so sudden? And since you are basically required to book months in advance in order to get a realiistically priced fare, why are refundable tickets so much more expensive? It's like oil prices, one day to the next. I just don't get it!

I honestly cannot tell you why all this is happening. Being a student who lives 90 minutes away, there is no need to book flights. I have been on a plane once since the 5th grade and have never booked a flight. That $200 increase in plane tickets is ridiculous though. I'm guessing that airlines predict people to wait until the last minute to book flights, so when the demand is high, the prices will follow. America is a country of procrastinators. Just my guess.

Emily, try studentuniverse.com - this site sometimes provides much better rates for students. The flight times might be not the most convenient, but it beats the price difference:-)
